The Zone 4 champion Morden Thunder won both round robin games on day one of the Provincial High School Baseball Championship in Reston and will play in today's quarterfinals. The Thunder downed the Stonewall Rams 22-5 and Brandon's Vincent Massey Vikings 10-4. Garden Valley defeated Steinbach Regional 14-2. The Zodiacs play their final round robin game today (9:30 a.m.) against Reston/Elkhorn/Melita/Pierson.


The Zone 4 champion Northlands Parkway Nighthawks will play round robin games today against the Brandon Vincent Massey (1 p.m.) and the Carberry Cougars (2:45 p.m.) at the Provincial High School Fastpitch Championship in Portage la Prairie. The host PCI Saints will meet Prairie Mountain (9 a.m.) and Winnipeg Vincent Massey (1:30 p.m.). The top team in each of the four pools will advance to the quarterfinals. The eight teams who finish second and third in their respective pools will play in the opening round of the playoffs. The winners will move on to the quarterfinals on Saturday. 


The Winnipeg Goldeyes plated six runs in the top of the third inning en route to a 10-7 victory over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at Newman Outdoor Field. Dayson Croes singled, doubled and drove in three runs for the Fish who open a three-game weekend series against the Lincoln Saltdogs tonight at Blue Cross Park.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers play their final pre-season game tonight (7:30 p.m.) at home against the Calgary Stampeders. Quarterback Zach Collaros, who did not suit up for the Bombers' exhibition opener against the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Regina on May 20th, will not see any playing time tonight against the Stamps. Back-up Chris Streveler will also sit out the game which means Terry Wilson and Darren Grainger will share the quarterbacking duties. 


India Young of Carman will meet Charmaine Hayden of Breezy Bend today at 3:37 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the Manitoba Women's Match Play Championship at the Breezy Bend Country Club. Young was 10-over par 81 this past Sunday at the Winkler Centennial golf course and finished in seventh place in the women's division qualifier. 


England's David Skinns fired an eight-under par 62 Thursday and has a one-shot lead over Sam Burns and Sean O'Hair heading into round two of the Canadian Open in Hamilton. Skinns had six birdies over a seven-hole stretch. Teulon's Aaron Cockerill opened with a four-over par 74.


The Moose Jaw Warriors meet the host Saginaw Spirit tonight (6:30 p.m.) in the semifinal of the Memorial Cup in Michigan. The winner will face the London Knights in the championship game on Sunday.
