It’s day two of the Provincial Junior Varsity Volleyball Championships. The AAA girls championship is in Altona. The host Miller Aces defeated Niverville and will meet Linden Christian and Neelin. Garden Valley beat R.D. Parker of Thompson and lost to Churchill. The Zodiacs will face Springfield in their final round robin game. The AAA boys championship is in Winkler. The host Northlands Parkway Nighthawks will face Westgate and that winner advances to the quarterfinals against College Beliveau. Garden Valley will meet either R.D. Parker or John Taylor in the quarterfinals. At the A/AA girls championship in Russell...Rosenort lost to Reston and Gilbert Plains. The Redhawks will play their final round robin game against Gabrielle Roy. At the A/AA boys championship in Hamiota….Rosenort lost to MacGregor and beat Goose Lake of Roblin. The Redhawks will face Gabrielle Roy. Morris beat Prairie Mountain and will meet Warren and Carberry to end the round robin.


JJ Oke had a hat trick and Cam Sarna had two goals and an assist as Portage Collegiate defeated the Mountain Mustangs 9-0. Rowan Peters, Alex Van Deynze, Carson Inman and Tyler Olson also scored for the defending Zone 4 High School Hockey League champions. Rowan Cherkas made 28 saves in recording the shutout.


The Ste. Anne Aces scored three goals in each period and downed the Altona Maroons 9-2 at Sunflower Gardens in the lone SEMHL game. Keith Grondin scored twice for the Aces and Braden Purtill had a goal and four helpers. Bryan Ritsema, Brett Meilleur, Owen Blocker, Ken Selby and Tanner Harms also scored for Ste. Anne. Tristen Dueck and Justin Augert replied for the Maroons.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension with offensive lineman Pat Neufeld. The Regina native returns to the Bombers for what will be his 12th CFL season and ninth with Winnipeg. Neufeld is coming off his second consecutive all-star season, having been named to the both the West Division and CFL All-Star teams in 2021 and 2022.


Manitoba champions Zachary Wasylik finished the round robin with a 5-0 record and Lisa Birchard was 4-1 at the 2022 Everest Curling Club Championships at the Ice Palace in the West Edmonton Mall. Both teams will play in the quarterfinals today. Wasylik will meet Ron Schmidt of BC and Birchard will take on Chrissy Cadorin of Ontario.
