The Winkler Flyers open the 2022-23 Manitoba Junior Hockey League season tonight (7:30 pm.) when they meet the Winnipeg Freeze at Bell MTS Iceplex. The Flyers will play their home opener Saturday against the Winnipeg Blues at the Centennial Arena.


The Pembina Valley Twisters play their Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League pre-season opener tonight against the Jets in Stonewall.


The Pembina Valley Hawks are at the Firestarter Female U18 Hockey Tournament in Calgary. The Hawks played a pair of games Thursday. Pembina Valley tied the Southern Alberta Hockey Academy 1-1 and lost 4-2 to the Notre Dame Hounds. The Hawks will meet the Lloydminster Steelers this afternoon at 2:15 p.m.


The Winnipeg Ice lost 3-2 to the Regina Pats at the Brandt Centre. Parker Berge potted the winner 1:47 into overtime for the Pats. Zach Benson had both goals for the Ice. The Brandon Wheat Kings wrap up their pre-season schedule with a pair of games this weekend against the Moose Jaw Warriors. The two teams meet tonight in Saskatchewan and Saturday at Westoba Place.


The Winnipeg Jets take on the Calgary Flames in their first of three games at the Young Stars Classic in Penticton. The Jets will also face the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday and the Edmonton Oilers on Monday.
