The Pembina Valley Hawks scored three second period goals en route to a 7-4 victory over the Yellowhead Chiefs Sunday in Morden in their regular season finale. Caitlin Anderson and Jessica Anderson had two goals each for Pembina Valley and singles went to Gracie Carels, Ava Dalebozik and Erica Fijala. The Hawks finished in sixth place (9-18-1) and will meet the Winnipeg Avros in the opening round of the Manitoba Female U18 AAA Hockey League playoffs. Game one goes Tuesday at the Seven Oaks Arena in Winnipeg.


Pembina Valley lost 4-3 in a shootout to the Yellowhead Chiefs in Shoal Lake. Cedrik Robidoux, Jayden Penner and Marek Miller scored in regulation for the Hawks. Bryson Yaschshyn made 52 saves in net for Pembina Valley.


The Zone 4 High School Hockey League's best-of-three quarterfinals begin Wednesday. The Morden Thunder host the Carman Cougars, the Miller Aces meet the Pembina Tigers in Altona and the Garden Valley Zodiacs face the Mavericks in Morris. The fourth series starts Thursday in Portage as the PCI Trojans take on the Mountain Mustangs. 


Providence University College won the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Championship for the second year in a row. The Pilots defeated Canadian Mennonite University 66-62 in the final and finished the season undefeated. Providence captured the men’s basketball conference championship title for a fifth time (2000-01, 2001-02, 2002-03, 2021-22, 2022-23). CMU completed its undefeated season beating Providence University College 73-48 in the women's final. The Blazers have now won the last five MCAC championships.
