The Winkler Nationals are Baseball Manitoba Provincial 15U A champions. The Nationals outscored La Broquerie 10-9 in the final Sunday in Swan River. Steinbach downed Mitchell 11-2 in the final of the Provincial 13U A championship in Winkler and Brandon beat host Stonewall 6-4 in the 11U A final at Quarry Park.


The Winkler Renegades captured Softball Manitoba's Provincial U13 A girls championship at Buhler Recreation Park in Winnipeg. 


The Altona Bisons and Pembina Valley Orioles both played doubleheaders Sunday. Pembina Valley and Winnipeg South split their twinbill. The Wolves won the first game 20-6. The Orioles took the second game 8-7 in nine innings. Altona and St. Boniface also split their doubleheader. The Legionaires won the opener 9-1. The Bisons took the second game by forfeit when St. Boniface had a player ejected in the top of the seventh inning. The Legionaires, who were leading at the time, were left with only eight players.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes plated nine runs in the bottom of the second inning en route to a 12-3 victory over the Sioux City Explorers at Shaw Park. David Washington and Max Murphy had two home runs each for the Fish while Logan Hill and Justin Thompson also went deep. The Goldeyes reached the All-Star break with a 28-24 record and are in third place in the American Association's West Division. Winnipeg is eight games back of the first place Fargo- Moorhead Redhawks. The American Association All-Star game goes Tuesday in Chicago. 


Week seven of the Prairie Putter Men's Golf League schedule begins today with Minnewasta at Portage and Winkler hosts Scotswood Links. Carman will face Bridges Thursday in Starbuck.


Ilyas Umar scored the only goal of the game as the Winkler Storm blanked NKMB Saints 1-0. The Storm, who have two wins, four losses and one tie in the Manitoba Major Soccer League's Premier Division, dedicated the victory to Roberto Kort who played his last game with the soccer club Sunday after spending 15 years with the Storm.
