The Winkler Wolves are Softball Manitoba Provincial U15 A champions. The Wolves defeated KPIC Maintenance of Brandon 6-2 in the gold medal game Sunday at A.D. Penner Park in Steinbach. Winkler downed Virden 9-2 in the semifinals. Brandon C & E Locksmith outscored Strathclair 19-18 in the gold medal game at the Provincial U13 A championship in Portage la Prairie. Morden Gold Mud Hens fell 13-8 to Steinbach while the Winkler Storm lost 6-2 to Virden in the quarterfinals. The Altona Angels dropped a 14-8 decision to Steinbach and Miami fell 12-2 to Brandon C & E Locksmith in the opening round of the playoffs. 


The Winkler Mariners dropped a 6-5 decision to the host Mitchell Expos in the gold medal game at Baseball Manitoba's Provincial 11U Tier One championship. The Mariners outscored the Winkler Nationals 8-6 in the semifinals. The Winkler Blue Jays fell 5-4 to Brandon in the 4 vs 4 pool playoff game. Rock Lake shaded host Reston 3-2 in the final of the Provincial 11U Tier Two championship. Morden lost 10-0 to Reston in the semifinals. Mitchell downed Brandon 13-5 in the 11U Tier Three championship game in Boissevain.


The Pembina Valley Orioles and Manitoba Junior Baseball League leading Carillon Sultans split a doubleheader Sunday in Winkler. Carillon took the opener 2-1. Owen Goertzen had two of the Orioles four hits. Darius Peters drove in a pair of runs as Pembina Valley rallied for a 5-4 victory over the Sultans in game two. The Orioles plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings. Pembina Valley is in fifth place with a 10-10 record and will face the Elmwood Giants tonight at Koskie Field. 


The Winnipeg Goldeyes dropped an 8-5 decision to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. Dayson Croews had three hits and an rbi for the Fish who stranded 11 base runners on Sunday. The Goldeyes have Monday off and will begin a three-game series against the defending American Association champion Kansas City Monarchs Tuesday at Blue Cross Park.  


The Winkler Storm and Galacticos FC played to a 1-1 draw Sunday night at the Winkler Recreation Complex. Santi Bergen scored the lone goal for the Storm who have six wins, one loss and two ties in the Manitoba Major Soccer League's 1st Division. Winkler's next game is Sunday, July 14th at home against Winnipeg FC.


Addison Kartusch of St. Charles captured Golf Manitoba's Provincial Women's Amateur Championship and Allan McDonald of Breezy Bend won the Provincial Men's Mid-Amateur championship at Minnedosa. Kartusch was plus four and finished six shots ahead of Jeri Lafleche of Niakwa. McDonald was minus 10 and two shots better than Drew Jones of Shilo. Tyson Ehnes of Lorette was minus six and finished in fourth place. Bobby NcNair of Carman was in a tie for ninth at plus two. The final round of both the Women's Amateur and Men's Mid-Am were suspended Saturday due to bad weather and completed on Sunday. India Young and Kiera Krahn of Carman withdrew and did not finish their final rounds.
