The Altona Angels brought home silver medals from Softball Manitoba's Provincial U11 A championship. The Angels defeated Macdonald Storm Blue 9-2 in the semifinals and then dropped an 11-4 decision to Boissevain in the gold medal game Sunday at Buhler Park in Winnipeg. The Winkler Panthers downed Macdonald Storm Blue 12-0 in the bronze medal game. 


The Altona Bisons and Winnipeg South Wolves played a doubleheader Sunday at Access Field. The Wolves won the opener 6-4 and the Bisons took the second game 9-6. Altona will face the Pembina Valley Orioles Wednesday in Winkler and then host the Manitoba Junior Baseball League leading Carillon Sultans on Canada Day.  


The Winnipeg Goldeyes five-game losing skid came to an end Sunday afternoon at Blue Cross Park. Jake McMurray homered for the Fish. Winnipeg starter Landen Bourassa allowed two runs on six hits over six inning and struck out seven. Fellow Canadians Ben Onyshko and Nick Trogrlic-Iverson combined to keep the RedHawks off the board for the remainder of the game. The Goldeyes have the day off and will open a three-game series against the Dogs in Chicago on Tuesday. 


Santi Bergen and Matheus Ruffini scored three goals each to lead the Winkler Storm past CSSE Juventus 6-1. The Storm have five wins, one loss and one tie in the Manitoba Major Soccer League's 1st Division. Winkler's next game is Tuesday, July 2nd in Winnipeg against Kucame FC. 


Kaydence Wiens scored twice as the Morden U17 Eagles defeated Corydon 3-2 in the Winnipeg Youth Soccer Association's Recreational Division. Logan Speers had the other Eagles' goal.


The National Hockey League's 2023-24 season will come to an end tonight in Sunrise, Florida as the Panthers meet the Edmonton Oilers in the seventh and deciding game of the Stanley Cup final. Florida won the first three games of the series. Edmonton staved off elimination by winning the next three. The 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs are the only team in NHL history to rally from an 0-3 series deficit and win the Stanley Cup.
