The Altona Bisons and Pembina Valley Orioles both played doubleheaders Sunday. Altona swept the Interlake Blue Jays at Quarry Park in Stonewall. Ethan Giesbrecht struck out 13 Jays and Trent Peters homered as the Bisons took the opener 9-3. Altona jumped out to a 10-0 lead and cruised to an 11-4 victory over Interlake in the second game. Pembina Valley dropped a pair of games to the Carillon Sultans in Steinbach.  The Sultans plated seven runs in the third inning and took the opener 9-6. TJ Matuszewski and Owen Goertzen both reached base three times for the Orioles. Carillon won the second game 4-3. Johnny Dueck had a pair of hits for Pembina Valley.


Luis Ramirez allowed just two hits and struck out seven over seven innings of work as the Winnipeg Goldeyes downed the Lincoln Saltdogs 5-1 at Shaw Park. Hidekel Gonzalez homered for the Fish who begin a two-game series against the Monarchs in Kansas City on Wednesday.


The Winkler Storm are still looking for their first win and first goal of the 2022 Manitoba Major Soccer League season. Winkler was shutout 1-0 at home by Hellas SC. The Storm are 0-2 in the Premier Division. 


Marco Trstenjak of Elmhurst, Rob Oliphant of Rossmere and Marissa Naylor of Niakwa captured the 2022 Manitoba Match Play Championships Sunday at Quarry Oaks near Steinbach. Trstenjak defeated Joe Scharf of Whitewater Golf Club in Thunder Bay 2 &1 in the Men's final. Oliphant downed David Klowak of Winnipeg 7 & 6 in the Senior Men’s final and Naylor beat Clara Peake of Binscarth 4 & 3 victory in the Women’s final.
