Riley Hay scored three times in the Portage Islanders 7-2 victory over the Red River Wild Friday night in St. Jean. Brody Moffatt, Derrick Brooks, John Sewdlo and Rene Hunter also scored for the Islanders who improved to 7-0 on the season and moved in a tie with the Ste. Anne Aces for top spot in the SEMHL. Justin Baudry and Jonah Wasylak replied for the Wild.


The Pembina Tigers and Morden Thunder were winners in the Zone 4 High School Hockey League. Cole Patenaude scored in overtime to lift Pembina past Garden Valley 5-4. Charlie Hill had a pair of goals in regulation for the Tigers while the rest went to Max Jago and Easton Lounsbury. Haiden Friesen scored twice and assisted on goals by Jeffrey Holomay and Ketema Wall. Josh Ryckman Guilford had a hat trick as Morden defeated Mountain 4-1. Owen Vanrobaeys also scored for the Thunder. Matthew Voth had the lone goal for the Mustangs.


The Winkler Flyers jumped out to a 5-0 first period lead and beat the Portage Terriers 8-5 at the Centennial Arena. Jayce Legaarden scored three times and Trent Penner had two goals and an assist. Trent Sambrook, Mike Svenson and Nicholas McKee also scored for the Flyers who extended their points streak to 12 games.


Keston Worley had two goals and an assist to lead the Pembina Valley Twisters past the Fort Garry/Fort Rouge Twins 6-3. Riley Goertzen, Cody Clark, Merek Degraeve and Slade Sotheran had the other Twisters goals.


Bryson Yaschyshyn made 33 saves in the Pembina Valley Hawks 4-2 victory over the Southwest Cougars in Souris. Ty Love scored the go-ahead goal 2:59 into the third period and Nate Lodewyks added the insurance marker with 7:28 remaining in regulation. Ryder Wolfe and Cedrik Robidoux also scored for the Hawks.


Zach Benson had three goals and an assist as the Winnipeg Ice doubled up on the Spokane Chiefs 6-3. Conor Geekie added a pair of goals for the Ice while Vladislav Shilo also scored for Winnipeg.


Cole Perfetti, Blake Wheeler and Adam Lowry did the goal scoring and David Rittich made 22 saves as the Winnipeg Jets downed the Blackhawks 3-1 in Chicago.


The Manitoba Moose lost 7-0 to the Abbotsford Canucks. Arturs Silovs made 19 saves in recording the shutout. Moose netminder Oskari Salminen faced 29 shots.


Manitoba champions Randy Neufeld, Dean Moxham, Peter Nicholls and Dale Michie will play for bronze at the 2022 Canadian Senior Men’s Curling Championship in Nova Scotia. Neufeld gave up two in the last end and lost 4-3 to James Pahl of Alberta in today’s semifinals. It was the first loss for the Neufeld foursome who had reeled off 10 straight wins.
