The Morden Thunder will meet Boissevain/Wawanesa and the Garden Valley Zodiacs face Garden City in today’s semifinals at the Provincial High School Baseball Championship in Reston. The Thunder beat Steinbach Regional 5-1 and the Zodiacs were 16-4 winners over Stonewall in the quarterfinals on Friday.


Northlands Parkway will take on Winnipeg’s Vincent Massey Trojans today in the quarterfinals of the Provincial High School Fastpitch Championship in Portage. The Nighthawks defeated Mikisew 11-1 in their playoff opener. The host PCI Saints lost 10-0 to Stonewall and were eliminated.


The Atona Bisons lost their home opener 17-2 to the Interlake Blue Jays at Access Field. The Bisons are 0-5 to start the 2024 Manitoba Junior Baseball League season.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes gave up seven runs in the top of the seventh inning and lost 9-4 to the Lincoln Saltdogs. Max Murphy had three hits and two rbi for the Fish.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers lost their pre-season finale 31-10 to the Calgary Stampeders. Winnipeg’s lone touchdown came on a 109-yard punt return by Chris Smith in the second quarter. The Bombers play their season opener next Thursday at home against the Grey Cup champion Montreal Alouettes.


India Young of Carman lost 6 & 5 to Charmaine Hayden of Breezy Bend in the quarterfinals of the Manitoba Women’s Match Play Championship Friday at the Breezy Bend Country Club.


Ryan Fox and Robert MacIntyre are tied for the lead at the midway point of the Canadian Open in Hamilton. Both are 10-under par through 36 holes. Mackenzie Hughes is three shots back. Teulon’s Aaron Cockerill was plus seven and missed the cut.
