Garden Valley boys will face Nelson McIntyre in the final and Sanford girls will meet John Taylor in the third place game at the Provincial AAA High School Varsity Basketball Championships in Thompson. The Zodiacs beat Neelin 93-70 while the Sabres lost 70-29 to College Beliveau in the semifinals. Rosenort will face the Hapnot Kopper Queens of Flin Flon in the AA girls final in Souris. The Redhawks downed Carman 54-43 in the semifinals. The Cougars will take on Prairie Mountain in the third place game. Westpark lost to Immanuel Christian 86-76 in the AA boys consolation semifinals in Virden. Elm Creek will meet Pinawa in the consolation final at the A boys championship in Grandview. The Cobras defeated Kings Knights 58-55 in the semifinal.


Game four of the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League final scheduled for Friday night in Ste. Anne between the Aces and Morden was postponed due to the poor weather and road conditions. The Bombers lead the best-of-seven three games to none. Game four has been rescheduled to Sunday night in Ste. Anne.


The Pembina Valley Hawks game against the Winnipeg Bruins at the Southdale Arena was postponed and will be played tonight. The Bruins lead the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League’s best-of-five semifinal two games to none.


The Pembina Valley Hawks game against Brandon in Carman was postponed and will be played this afternoon at 1 p.m. The Wheat Kings lead the Manitoba Female U15 AAA Hockey League’s best-of-three final 1-0.


The Pembina Valley Twisters dropped a 5-3 decision to the Transcona Railer Express. Merek Degraeve, Mike Heppner and Zander Carels did the goal scoring for the Twisters who will play their regular season finale tonight against Raiders in Morris. Pembina Valley will face the Charleswood Hawks in the opening round of the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League playoffs.


The Brandon Wheat Kings lost 4-3 to the Prince Albert Raiders at Westoba Place. Nate Danielson, Andrei Malyavin and Nolan Ritchie scored for the Wheat Kings. Brandon has three games left and trail Calgary by two points in the race for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Hockey League’s Eastern Confence. The Hitmen have five games left.


Brandon’s Assiniboine Community College will play their final round robin game against Adrian College today at the American Collegiate Hockey Association Division II Championship in Boston. The two-time reigning champion Cougars beat Michigan State University 10-0 and the University of Vermont 5-0 in their first two round robin games.


The 2023 World Women’s Curling Championship begins today in Sweden. Canada’s Kerri Einarson, Val Sweeting, Shannon Birchard and Briane Harris will play their opener against Anna Hasselborg of Sweden at 1 p.m.
