The Provincial Junior Varsity Volleyball Championships end today. The host Miller Aces face the Leo Remillard Renards in the AAA girls quarterfinals in Altona. Garden Valley lost to Leo Remillard in the round of 16. Garden Valley will face the Beliveau Baracudas in the semifinals at the AAA boys championship in Winkler. The host Northlands Parkway Nighthawks lost to Westgate in the round of 16. Rosenort will face Warren in the quarterfinals at the A/AA girls championship in Russell. Rosenort will meet Margaret Barbour and Morris will take on MacGregor in the quarterfinals at the A/AA boys championship in Hamiota.


Braison Penner and Tyson Froese scored three goals each and Logan Krahn stopped 24 shots as the Miller Aces blanked the Garden Valley Zodiacs 9-0 in the lone Zone 4 High School Hockey League game. Jaxson Heide, Marshall Braun and Reece Fehr also scored for the Aces.


The Pembina Valley Hawks five-game winning streak came to an end Friday night in Brandon. Liam Goertzen scored Pembina Valley’s lone goal in the Hawks 4-1 loss to the Wheat Kings. Pembina Valley goaltender Bryson Yaschyshyn made 28 saves.


Riley Goertzen had a goal and two assists as Pembina Valley defeated Raiders 6-3. Brett Bergman. Jacob Carels, Jonathan Dyck, Cohen Thomas and Nico Vigier also scored for the Twisters.


Remi Laurencelle and Phil Letkeman had two goals each as Winkler downed Red River 5-3 in the lone SEMHL game. Cody Friesen also scored for the Royals. TJ Matuszewski, Riley Hunter and Jonah Wasylak replied for the Wild.


The Brandon Wheat Kings dropped a 4-3 decision to the Lethbridge Hurricanes at Westoba Place. Mason Ward, Nate Danielson and Calder Anderson did the goal scoring for the Wheat Kings. Daniel Hauser made 30 saves as the Winnipeg Ice downed the Blades 6-3 in Saskatoon. Conor Geekie, Graham Sward, Ty Nash, Owen Pederson, Vladislav Shilo and Ben Zloty did the goal scoring for the Ice. Connor McClennon chipped in with three assists.


Josh Morrissey scored 34 seconds into overtime as the Winnipeg Jets edged Dallas 5-4. Cole Perfetti, Jansen Harkins, Adam Lowry and Kyle Connor scored in regulation for the Jets who wrap up their three-game road trip Sunday against the Blackhawks in Chicago.


The Manitoba Moose lost 3-0 to Grand Rapids. Jussi Olkinuora made 26 saves in net for the Griffins. Moose netminder Arvid Holm stopped 31 shots.


Manitoba champions Zachary Wasylik and Lisa Birchard lost a pair of playoff games Friday and were eliminated at the 2022 Everest Curling Club Championships at the Ice Palace in the West Edmonton Mall.
