Malachi Klassen and Tucker St. John combined to make 26 saves as the Winkler Flyers blanked the Steinbach Pistons 6-0 at the Centennial Arena. Kyle Crewe, Sully Ross, Trent Penner, Nicholas McKee, Dayton Kiesman and Rhett Marchant did the goal scoring for the Flyers who are in Selkirk tonight and will wrap up the pre-season schedule Sunday at home against the Steelers.


The Brandon Wheat Kings won their pre-season opener Friday night at Westoba Place. Roger McQueen scored three times and Nicholas Jones made 24 saves as Brandon defeated the Winnipeg Ice 6-1. Matthew Henry, Ben Thornton and Charlie Elick also scored for the Wheat Kings. The two teams meet again tonight at RINK Hockey Academy in Winnipeg.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes and Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks are going the distance in their best-of-three American Association West Division semifinal. The Redhawks downed the Goldeyes 8-3 and evened the series at a game a piece. Game three goes tonight at Newman Outdoor Field.


The 11-1 Winnipeg Blue Bombers face the 6-6 Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Banjo Bowl at IG Field. Kick returner Janarion Grant, who missed the last two games with a groin injury, returns to the Bombers lineup. The opening kick off is at 4 p.m.


Rusty Strawn of McDonough, Georgia captured the 60th Canadian Senior Men’s Golf Championship Friday in Red Deer. Strawn fired a final round even par 72 and finished at minus five. Mike Lohner of Southlake, Texas was three shots back. Jay Doyle of Winnipeg was one-over par 73 and finished in a tie for seventh place at plus nine. 2022 Provincial Senior Men's champion Rob Oliphant of Winnipeg was 87 and plus 28.
