Jennifer Jones is playing Abby Ackland in the final of the 2023 Provincial Scotties Tournament of Hearts at the East St. Paul Arena. Jones earned a bye to the final by finishing first in the round robin. Ackland defeated Kaitlyn Lawes 8-5 in the semifinals.


The Warren Mercs scored six third period goals in en route to a 13-4 victory over the Morden Bombers. Drake Lindsay had a hat trick and Riley Vautour had a five-point night with a goal and four assists for the defending SEMHL champion Mercs who moved into sole possession of second place with 21 points. Warren is one point ahead of the third place Ste. Anne Aces who lost 3-0 to Notre Dame. Christopher Lesage made 32 saves and Kyle Rous, Dylan Dacquay and Richard Lesage scored for the Hawks who are alone in fifth place with 18 points. Notre Dame is one point back of Morden and one point ahead of the Ile des Chenes Northstars.


The Morden Thunder, PCI Trojans and Mountain Mustangs were winners in the Zone 4 High School Hockey League Saturday. Logan Carson scored twice and Adam Derksen had three helpers as Morden downed Garden Valley 7-2. JJ Oke and Carson Inman had two goals each as Portage Collegiate shaded the Morris Mavericks 5-4. The Trojans are two points back of the first place Thunder and have two games in hand on Morden. Brett Lesage had two goals and an assist in the Mustangs 7-1 win over Northlands Parkway.


Mike Svenson scored the go-ahead goal with 5:19 left in the third period and Jayce Legaarden added an insurance marker with 2:58 remaining as Winkler defeated the Neepawa Titans 3-1 at the Yellowhead Centre. Zach Nicolas also scored for the Flyers who received a 32-save performance from Aidan Comeau.

 

Kam Thomas scored a power play goal midway through the third period and that was the winner as Pembina Valley edged the Parkland Rangers 4-2. Sebastien Hicks, Adrien McIntosh and Carter Campbell scored second period goals for the Hawks. The Rangers lead 2-0 after 20 minutes.

 

Mason Beaupit made 25 saves and Carson Lambos had four helpers as the Winnipeg Ice downed the Red Deer Rebels 5-1. Connor McClennon scored his 24th goal of the season for the Ice.


The Winnipeg Jets have lost three in a row. Carter Hart made 40 saves as the Philadelphia Flyers shutout Winnipeg 4-0 at Canada Life Centre. The Jets are 0-2 on their five-game homestand which continues Monday against the St. Louis Blues.
