Four Baseball Manitoba Provincial Championships wrap up Sunday. The host Altona Broncos face Red River in the quarterfinals at the 11U AA championship. Winkler finished with a 1-2 round robin record. Morden will meet Steinbach and the host Winkler Giants take on Stonewall in the quarterfinals at the 13U AA championship. The Winkler Nationals finished 4-0 and earned a bye to the semifinals at the 15U AA championship in La Broquerie. Winkler will face Brandon in the semifinals at the 15U A provincials in Niverville. The Altona Bears finished with a 2-2 record.


Central Energy finished the round robin with a 3-3 record and will face the Interlake Phillies in the 3 vs 4 playoff game at Softball Manitoba’s U13 AAA championship in Friedensfeld. The Eastman Wildcats meet the Westman Magic in the 1 vs 2 game.


The Cleburne Railroaders plated six runs in the top of the third inning en route to an 11-2 victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Shaw Park. The only Goldeyes runs were in the sixth inning on groundouts by third baseman Dayson Croes and shortstop Keith Torres. The Fish had just two hits – their fewest in a nine-inning game this season.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers gave up 19 unanswered fourth quarter points and lost 31-28 in overtime to the Ottawa Redblacks at TD Place Stadium. Ottawa quarterback Dustin Crum engineered a last-minute tying touchdown drive and then ran 29-yards for the winning major in OT. Crum, making his first start in the CFL, threw for 261 yards and ran for 103 yards and two touchdowns. Winnipeg pivot Zach Collaros tossed touchdown passes to Drew Wolitarsky and Nic Demksi. Ottawa defensive back Brandin Dandridge sparked the Redblacks comeback when he returned a Collaros interception 25 yards to pay dirt with 2:29 left the fourth quarter. The successful two-point convert cut Winnipeg’s lead to 25-17. The Blue Bombers (4-2) next game is Thursday, July 20th against the Edmonton Elks at IG Field.
