Samuel Sullivan and Ryan Orchard of Carman have qualified for Golf Manitoba’s Provincial Men’s Match Play Championship. Sullivan was six-over par 78 Saturday at the Match Play qualifier at the Glendale Golf & Country Club in Winnipeg. Orchard was 80. 2022 Provincial Men’s and Junior Men’s champion Braxton Kuntz of Breezy Bend was four-under par 68 and earned medalist honours. The senior men’s and women’s match play qualifiers were suspended and will be completed today. The Provincial Match Play Championships will take place June 1st to 4th also at Glendale.


Rookie quarterback Tyrrell Pigrome ran for two touchdowns including a 46-yard scamper early in the fourth quarter as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers won their preseason opener 25-23 over the Edmonton Elks at Commonwealth Stadium. Zach Collaros threw a 67-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Lawler. The Bombers play their final pre-season game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders at IG Field on Friday, June 2nd.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes scored four runs in the third inning and tacked on five in the fourth en route to an 11-6 victory over the Sioux Falls Canaries. Winnipeg third baseman Dayson Croes singled twice and extended his hitting streak to 11 games.


Canada will meet Germany in the gold medal game (12:20 p.m.) at the 2023 World Hockey Championship in Tampere, Finland. Adam Fantilli, Jack Quinn, Sammy Blais and Scott Laughton did the goal scoring and Samuel Montembeault made 20 saves as Canada defeated Latvia 4-2. Frederik Tiffels scored in overtime to lift Germany past the United States 4-3 in the other semifinal.
