The Winnipeg Jets play their first of six exhibition games tonight when they face the Oilers in Edmonton. Goaltenders Thomas Milic and Collin Delia are on the Jets game day roster. Milic was the Western Hockey League’s Goaltender of the Year with the Seattle Thunderbirds and was selected by the Jets in the 5th round of the 2023 NHL Draft. Delia had a 10-6-2 record with the Vancouver Canucks last season and signed as a free agent with Winnipeg in the off-season.


The Brandon Wheat Kings scored four first period goals en route to a 9-4 victory over the Warriors in Moose Jaw. Rylen Roersma and Nolan Flamand had two goals each for the visitors while singles went to Caleb Hadland, Roger McQueen, Carter Klippenstein, Evan Groening and Dominik Petr. Ethan Eskit made 23 saves for the Wheat Kings who picked up three of a possible four points on the Western Hockey League’s opening weekend.


The Canadian women’s volleyball team swept Mexico 25-22, 25-22, 25-17 Saturday but fell short in qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Canada has a 4-2 record but trail Serbia and Dominican Republic who have 5-1 records and have all but secured the top two spots with one day remaining at the Olympic qualification tournament in China. Canada is in fourth place in Pool A with 11 points and are four points back of Serbia and Dominican Republic. Canada will play its final match Sunday at Czechia. The top two teams in the pool qualify. Six teams from the qualifying tournament will join host France at the 2024 Olympics. Five more countries can earn berths next summer through world rankings. Right now, Canada is 11th in the FIVB world rankings.
