Macklin Celebrini had a goal and four assists as Canada blanked Latvia 10-0 at the 2024 World Junior Hockey Championship in Gothenburg, Sweden. Strathclair's Conor Geekie and Carson Rehkopf added two goals each while the rest went to Matthew Wood, Fraser Minten, Brayden Yager, Owen Allard and Matthew Poitras. Dominion City's Denton Mateychuk chipped in with a pair of assists. Mathis Rousseau made 22 saves in recording the shutout. Canada has a 2-0 preliminary round record and will face host Sweden on Friday. 


Jayden Wiens scored 1:51 into overtime to lift the Brandon Wheat Kings past the Regina Pats 5-4 Wednesday night at Westoba Place. Rylen Roersma had a pair of goals in regulation for the Wheat Kings who trailed 1-0 and 3-1 at the period breaks. Matteo Michels and Brett Hyland had the other Brandon goals. Carson Bjarnason stopped 34 of the 38 shots he faced. The Wheat Kings are 6-1 on their eight-game homestand which comes to an end Friday night when they meet the Western Hockey League's Eastern Conference leading Saskatoon Blades. 


The Winnipeg Jets lost 2-1 in overtime to the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Centre. Connor Bedard scored his second goal of the game at 2:15 of OT for the Blackhawks. Morgan Barron had the lone goal for the Jets who despite the loss, extended their points streak to six games. 


Summer McIntosh is the Canadian Press Female Athlete of the Year for 2023. The swimming sensation from Toronto won a pair of world championship gold medals and set two world records before her 17th birthday this year. McIntosh earned 24 votes out of 52 cast by sports editors and broadcasters across the country.
