Keira Krahn of Carman is in a tie for sixth place heading into round two of the Provincial Junior Girls Golf Championship. Krahn was nine-over par 81 Wednesday at the Niakwa Country Club in Winnipeg and trails first round leader Addison Kartusch of St. Charles by 11 shots. Kartusch, who won the Provincial Women's Amateur Championship this past Sunday at Minnedosa, was two-under par 70. India Young of Carman opened with 13-over par 85. Zostrianos Gross of Shilo was three-under par 69 yesterday at Niakwa and leads the Provincial Junior Boys Championship by three shots over Terence Rafferty of Southwood. 

The Manitoba Junior Baseball League's regular season schedule is over. The Altona Bisons lost a pair of games to the St. James A's Wednesday night at Access Field. The A's beat the Bisons 10-1 in the completion of a suspended game from June 2nd. St. James plated 11 runs in the fifth inning and took game two 18-1. The Pembina Valley Orioles dropped an 8-3 decision to the Carillon Sultans. The Bisons (3-21) will meet the first place Sultans (19-5) in the quarterfinals while the Orioles (11-13) will face the A's (16-8) in round one. The other playoff series feature the Elmwood Giants (18-6) against the Winnipeg South Wolves (4-20) and the Interlake Blue Jays (16-8) will take on the defending champion St. Boniface Legionaires (9-15). 

Softball Manitoba's Provincial U17 AAA Championship begins today in Friedensfeld. Central Energy will meet Smitty's Terminators and the Manitoba Thunder on day one. Energy will face Manitoba Angels and Westman Magic on Friday and wrap up the round robin against the Winnipeg Lightning and Eastman Wildcats on Saturday. The four teams advance to the playoffs on Sunday. 

Ramon Bramasco had two hits and scored a pair of runs and Rob Emery drilled his 8th home run of the season in the Winnipeg Goldeyes 5-4 victory over the defending American Association champion Kansas City Monarchs at Blue Cross Park. Goldeyes started Joey Matulovich and reliever Nick Trogrlic-Iverson combined on a four-hitter. 

Canada will face Uruguay in Copa America's third place game Saturday in Charlotte, North Carolina. Columbia defeated Uruguay 1-0 in the semifinals and will meet Argentina in the championship game Sunday in Miami Gardens, Florida.

Canada's men's basketball team lost 86-72 to the United States in a pre-Olympic tune-up Wednesday night in Las Vegas. RJ Barrett poured in 12 points while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Dillon Brooks each had 10 for the Canadians who led 11-1 midway through the first quarter.
