The Pembina Valley Orioles and Altona Bisons both played home games Wednesday night. Pembina Valley plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and defeated the Winnipeg South Wolves 4-3 at Arctic Field while Altona dropped a 9-8 decision to the Elmwood Giants at Access Field. The Orioles have won four of their last five games and improved to 8-9 on the season. The Bisons are 2-15 and host the Manitoba Junior Baseball League leading Carillon Sultans tonight (7:30 p.m.) at Access Field. 


The Winnipeg Goldeyes and Sioux City Explorers split a doubleheader at Lewis & Clark Park. The Fish won the opener 9-0. Roby Enríquez belted a bases clearing double, and Rob Emery smacked a grand slam home run in the Goldeyes seven-run seventh inning. The Explorers held Winnipeg to just six hits and took the second game 4-1. The Goldeyes wrap up their nine-game road trip tonight in Sioux City.


The Winnipeg Jets four-day Development Camp begins today at Hockey for all Centre. The 35 players attending camp feature three goaltenders, 11 defencemen, and 21 forwards. The camp attendees include 17 players who were drafted by the Jets and 15 undrafted players. Nine of the 35 players at camp (Dylan Anhorn, Colby Barlow, Carson Golder, Dmitri Kuzmin, Brad Lambert, Connor Levis, Chaz Lucius, Thomas Milic, and Danny Zhilkin) have appeared for the Manitoba Moose.


It's day one of Golf Manitoba's Provincial Women's Amateur Championship and Provincial Men's Mid-Amateur championship at the Minnedosa Golf & Country Club. India Young and Keira Krahn of the Carman Golf & Curling Club are competing in the Women's Amateur. Jeri Lafleche of Niakwa is the two-time reigning champion. Bobby McNair of Carman is playing in the Mid-Am. Patrick Perrin of Elmhurst is the defending champion.
