Rhonda Orr of Southwood and Braxton Kuntz of Breezy Bend are Golf Manitoba's 2022 Female and Male Amateur Golfers of the Year. Orr won the Provincial Senior Championship, her seventh in a row and ninth in the last ten years. She finished 10th at the Canadian Senior Women's Championship at Breezy Bend and tied for eighth place at the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship. Kuntz won the Manitoba Junior Championship and finished in a tie for fifth place at the Nationals. He also captured the Provincial Men’s Amateur Championship. Kuntz is the first player in Manitoba history to win both the Junior and Amateur Championship in back-to-back seasons. The other female finalists were Addison Kartusch, Jeri Lafleche and Charmaine Mackid. The other male finalists were Curtis Markusson, Rob Oliphant and Marco Trstenjak.


The Miller Aces and Pembina Tigers were winners in the Zone 4 High School Hockey League Wednesday night. Miller scored three unanswered third period goals and rallied for a 6-5 victory over Mountain. Tyson Tarnick and Oakley Peters had two goals each for the Aces while singles went to Reece Fehr and Tyson Froese. Chaz Richard scored twice for the Mustangs and the rest went to Layne Bourdeaud'hui, Owen Foster and Marc Grenier. Cole Patenaude had three assists as Pembina downed Carman 5-2. Tanner Anderson, Max Jago, Anthony McKay, Grady Ross and Brad Sloane did the goal scoring for the Tigers. Brody Benner and Jack Bausman replied for the Cougars. 


The Winkler Flyers gave up three goals in a six-minute span of the first period and lost 4-1 to the Steinbach Pistons at the Centennial Arena. Zach Nicolas had the lone goal for the Flyers who outshot the Pistons 34-19. 


Eli Carels scored 1:28 into overtime to lift the Notre Dame Hawks past the Winkler Royals 5-4 in the lone SEMHL game. Griffen McLean had a pair of goals in regulation for the Hawks while the rest went to Jean Prejet and Sean Christensen. Mitch Doell had a hat trick for the Royals. Aaron Lewadniuk had the other Winkler goal. 


The Brandon Wheat Kings dropped a 6-3 decision to Everett at Westoba Place. Zakhar Polshakov, Andrie Malyavin and Nate Danielson did the goal scoring for the Wheat Kings. Ryan Hofer had a hat trick for the Silvertips who led 2-0 and 4-3 at the period breaks. 


The Winnipeg Jets begin a three-game homestand tonight when they face the Montreal Canadiens at Canada Life Centre. The Jets recalled forward Jansen Harkins from the American Hockey League's Manitoba Moose on an emergency basis and placed defenceman Logan Stanley on injured reserve.


Kerri Einarson has a 5-0 record and Brad Gushe is 3-1 at the Pan Continental Curling Championships in Calgary. Einarson is guaranteed a top-five finish in the round-robin, which means Canada has its berth locked up in the 2023 World Women’s Curling Championship in March in Sweden.


Winnipeg Blue Bombers wide receiver Dalton Schoen has been named a CFL Top Performer of the Month for October. The West nominee for Most Outstanding Rookie recorded 13 receptions for 323 yards and five touchdowns in three games. He registered his fifth 100+yard game in October, and also a career best 162 yards in Week 18. Schoen finished 2022 leading the league in receiving yards (1,441) and receiving touchdowns (16).
