The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have announced their 2022 Outstanding Player Award winners. Quarterback Zach Collaros is the Most Outstanding Player; defensive end Willie Jefferson is the Most Outstanding Defensive Player; receiver Nic Demski is the Most Outstanding Canadian; left tackle Stanley Bryant is the Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman, kick returner Janarion Grant is the Most Outstanding Special Teams Player and receiver Dalton Schoen is the Most Outstanding Rookie. Collaros and Schoen were unanimous selects. The voting was conducted by members of the local chapter of the Football Reporters of Canada and the league’s head coaches. The West Division and East Division Most Outstanding Player Award finalists will be announced next week, with the overall league honours taking place November 17th during Grey Cup week.


Mia Sawatzky of the Miller Aces is the MHSAA's High School Athlete of the Week. Sawatzky finished first at the Zone 4 Cross Country Championships, then 4th overall at the Provincials in Killarney. She also led her Aces soccer team to the Zone 4 Championship and then to the schools first ever Varsity Girls Provincial Championship. Capping off the weekend by being named the Provincial MVP. The grade 12 student/athlete maintains a 94% academic average while also participating in volleyball, basketball, badminton, and track.


Mike Svenson scored three third period goals as the Winkler Flyers rallied for a 5-4 victory over the Virden Oil Capitals at the Centennial Arena. Trent Penner and Jayce Legaarden also scored for the Flyers who trailed 2-1 after the first and 4-2 after the second. The two teams will again Saturday night, this time at Tundra Oil & Gas Place.


The Pembina Valley Hawks dropped a 5-3 decision to the Winnipeg Bruins. Ty Love had a pair of goals for the Hawks while Nate Lodewyks had the other. Pembina Valley will face the Bruins again Friday night at the Southdale Arena.


Hockey Canada has named Canada’s National Women’s Team roster for the first three games of the Rivalry Series against the United States November 15th to 20th in Kelowna, Kamloops and Seattle. Two Manitobans, defenseman Jocelyne Larocque of Ste. Anne and goaltender Kristen Campbell of Brandon, are on the Team Canada roster. 


Winnipeg Jets head coach Rick Bowness did not accompany the team on their three-game road trip that begins tonight against the Kings in Los Angeles. Bowness, who will take part in game planning via Zoom, was not on the bench Monday night when the Jets defeated the St. Louis Blues 4-0 at Canada Life Centre. Earlier in the day, Bowness suffered dizzy spell and appeared to feel unwell while speaking to reporters after the team's morning skate. Associate coach Scott Arniel handled the head coaching duties in the win over the Blues and will continue in that role during the road trip.
