The Altona Bisons season came to an end Monday night at Optimist Park. The Bisons were shutout 10-0 by St. James. The A's took the best-of-three semifinal two games to one and will face Elmwood in the Manitoba Junior Baseball League final. The Giants defeated the Carillon Sultans 8-3 in the deciding game of their series. The best-of-five final begins Wednesday at Koskie Field.


Zoe Hicks has been named to Team Canada's roster and will play in the five-game, Canada/USA Friendship Series in Thunder Bay from July 28th to August 1st. The 24-year-old Boissevain native had five singles and three doubles in 14 plate appearances and drove in a team high six runs for Team Manitoba at Baseball Canada's Women's Invitational Championship which wrapped up Sunday in Stonewall. The Friendships Series will mark the first time that both nations have played in international competition since the COPABE Women's Pan-American Championships in 2019.


Central Energy will play its first of six round robin games today (1:30 p.m.) against Calgary Kaizen-Green at Softball Canada's National U19 Women's Championship in Fredericton.


There were three matches Monday in the Prairie Putter Men's Golf League. Winkler edged Portage six-and-a-half points to five-and-a-half; Morden defeated Carman 10-and-a-half points to one-and-a-half and Bridges beat Scotswood Links eight-and-a-half points to three-and-a-half. The regular season schedule ends next week. 


The 67th Canadian Junior Girls Championship begins today at The Marshes Golf Club in Ottawa. Five Manitobans are in the field of 137 players including Jeri Lafleche of Winnipeg, Clara Peake of Binscarth, Cala Korman of Killarney, Crystal Zamzow of Swan River and Manitoba champion Addison Kartusch of Winnipeg. 


Carson Bjarnason will play for Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team at the 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, July 31st-August 6th at the Peavey Mart Centrium in Red Deer. The 17-year-old Carberry native had a 4.00 goals-against-average and an .882 save percentage in 23 games in his rookie season as a back-up goaltender for the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings last year. Team Canada will play its preliminary round opener on Sunday against Switzerland.


Team Manitoba will officially announce its roster, introduce our province's opening ceremony flag bearer, and unveil its team uniform at a media conference today at the Sport Manitoba building in downtown Winnipeg. 370 athletes, along with 59 coaches, 20 managers, 11 technical support staff, and 25 mission staff will participate in all 18 sports at the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games that will be held from August 6th-21st in Ontario.
