The Altona Bisons and Pembina Valley Orioles both lost on Victoria Day Monday in the Manitoba Junior Baseball League. The Bisons, who committed four errors, gave up four runs in the bottom of the first and three more in the sixth and fell 7-3 to Wpg South at Charleswood Park. Denton Mateychuk had two of Altona's six hits. Pembina Valley dropped a 2-1 decision to St. James at Optimist Park. The A's scored both their runs with two-out in their final at bat. Darius Peters had the lone rbi for the Orioles.


The 2023 Border Baseball League season begins tonight with three games. The defending champion Cartwright Twins host the Pilot Mound Pilots, the Winkler Whips face the Cardinals in Carman and the Morden Mud Hens are at home to the Altona Bisons. Clearwater will host the Baldur Regals on Wednesday. 


Central Energy is in first place in the Manitoba Premier Softball League's U15 Division with a 6-2 record. Energy played three doubleheaders on the Victoria Day long weekend. Central split with Smitty’s Terminators on Friday winning 5-4 and losing 5-3. Energy fell 4-3 to Interlake and then beat the Phillies 9-5 on Saturday. Central swept the Winnipeg Lightning 14-2 & 13-0 on Sunday. Central Energy lost 12-11 & 10-3 to Interlake on Saturday and beat the Winnipeg Lightning 14-2 & 13-0 on Sunday. Energy is 4-4 in the U13 Division and 4-2 in the U17 Division. Central Energy has a 2-2 record in the U19 Division. Central defeated the Eastman Phillies 13-7 & 10-3 on Sunday and lost 11-4 & 8-6 to Smitty’s Terminators on Sunday.


Canada will play its final preliminary round game today (8:20 a.m.) against Czechia at the World Hockey Championship in Riga, Latvia. Switzerland is 6-0 and has clinched top spot in Group B. The Canadians, who lost 3-2 in a shootout to Norway on Monday, are in third place one point back of Czechia. 


It’s day 10 of Winnipeg Blue Bombers main camp. Today’s practice session at IG Field is from 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. The Bombers added wide receiver Amare Jones to the roster and released wide receiver Tavaris Harrison. Winnipeg's first pre-season game is Saturday against the Edmonton Elks at Commonwealth Stadium. The Elks lost their exhibition opener 29-24 to the Calgary Stampeders on Monday.
