The Pembina Valley Orioles swept a doubleheader from the Interlake Blue Jays Monday at Quarry Park in Stonewall. The Orioles plated eight runs in the third inning and took the opener 13-7. Oewn Goertzen pitched three-and-a-third innings of relief and picked up the win. Drew Hilhorst, Brendan Friesen and Darius Peters homered as Pembina Valley won the second game 10-3. The Orioles are 3-0 to start the 2022 Manitoba Junior Baseball League season.


The 2022 Border Baseball League season begins tonight. The defending champion Pilot Mound Pilots face the Twins in Cartwright, the Morden Mudhens host the Altona Bisons and the Baldur Regals visit Clearwater. The Winkler Whips will take on the Cardinals in Carman on Wednesday. The Killarney Lakers will not field a team for the second straight season. 


The Winnipeg Goldeyes gave up six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and lost 12-10 to the Sioux Falls Canaries. Hidekel Gonzalez had a pair of three run homers for the Fish. Reggie Pruitt Jr. also went deep for Winnipeg. 


CFL players have rejected the new collective bargaining agreement with the league. According to a source, players voted against ratifying the tentative seven-deal reached last Wednesday between the league and the Players' Association despite being approved by the bargaining committee and recommended by team player reps. In a memo to its membership late Monday night, the union wrote there wasn't enough support from players on the contract. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have a practice session scheduled for today at 9:30 a.m. at IG Field.


Justin Sourdiff scored at 8:03 of overtime to lift the Edmonton Oil Kings past the Winnipeg Ice4-3. The Oil Kings lead the Western Hockey League's best-of-seven Eastern Conference final two games to one. Jack Finley, Connor McClennon and Zach Benson did the goal scoring for the Ice who received a 51-save performance from Gage Alexander. Game four goes Wednesday at Rogers Place in Edmonton.


The Dauphin Kings face the Flin Flon Bombers today (5 p.m.) at the Centennial Cup in Estevan. The Manitoba Junior Hockey League champions have a 2-0 round robin record. Morden's Trent Crane had a pair of assists as the Summerside Western Capitals defeated Flin Flon 4-1 on Monday. The Maritime Hockey League champions are 2-1.


Canada dropped a 3-2 decision to Denmark at the 2022 World Men's Hockey Championship in Helsinki. Ryan Graves and Max Comtois did the goal scoring for the Canadians who have a 4-2 record and will play their final preliminary round game today (12:20 p.m.) against France.
