Rylan Keck had a goal and an assist and Logan Mazinke made 35 saves as the Morris Mavericks defeated the Morden Thunder 3-1 in the lone Zone 4 High School Hockey League game. Logan Dearborn and Hayden Peters also scored for the Mavericks. Acoyen Fehr had the lone goal for the Thunder. 


The Manitoba Junior Hockey League's Top Prospects Showcase takes place today and Wednesday at Stride Place in Portage. The event will feature six teams selected from MJHL rosters (two 18U and four 20U) who are considered top prospects for advancement. Each team will partake in a practice and play two full games during this high-performance event in front of the many scouts from NHL, NCAA, WHL and U Sports confirmed to be in attendance. 12 Winkler Flyers have been selected to play in the Showcase. Goaltender Malachi Klassen, defensemen Kyle Crewe & Trent Sambrook and forward Dalton Andrew are on Team 20U Black; forwards Brody Beauchemin, Trent Penner and Mike Svenson are on Team 20U Red; goaltender Aidan Comeau, defenseman Sully Ross and forward Jayce Legaarden are on Team 18U Black and forwards Nicholas McKee and Zach Nicolas are on Team 18U White.


Mark Franklin has a 2-0 record and Murray Warren, Judy Colwell and Sandra Cowling are 1-1 heading into day two of the Canadian Masters Curling Championships at the Pembina Curling Club in Winnipeg. 


Dean North of the Carman Curling Club has qualified for the 2023 Strathcona Trust Provincial Senior Men's Curling Championship. North, Brad Wainikka, Rob Van Deynze and Mike Orchard defeated Neil Okumura of Pembina 7-6 in the final of the Morden berth bonspiel. The Provincials will be held March 22nd-27th in Dauphin. 


The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have made a bold move as the team begins preparations to host next year's Grey Cup. Hamilton acquired the rights to veteran quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell from the Calgary Stampeders. That will give Hamilton a window to negotiate with the two-time C-F-L outstanding player before he becomes a free agent. The Stamps get Hamilton's third-round pick in the 2023 CFL draft, fifth-round pick in 2024 and future considerations.
