Winkler Flyers forward Dalton Andrew is a Manitoba Junior Hockey League Player of the Week. The 19-year-old Brandon native had a goal and an assist in Winkler's 5-4 victory over the Virden Oil Capitals; scored his fifth of the season in the Flyers 4-1 home ice win over the Winnipeg Freeze and then found the back of the net twice in Sundays suspended game with the Freeze at Bell MTS Iceplex. 


The Winnipeg Jets opened their three-game road trip with a 4-1 loss to the Dallas Stars. Mark Scheifele gave the Jets an early 1-0 lead as he potted his third of the season 3:28 into the first period but that was it for the Winnipeg scoring. Stars netminder Jake Oettinger shut the door the rest of the way. He finished the night with 24 saves. Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck faced 25 shots. Winnipeg will meet the reigning Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday and the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday. 


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have agreed to terms with quarterback Zach Collaros on a three-year contract extension through the 2025 season. The CFL's reigning Most Outstanding Player was scheduled to become a free agent in February. The Blue Bombers are 14-2 under Collaros in 2022 and 31-4 in his starts since his arrival in October of 2019. Included in that run are back-to-back Grey Cup championships in 2019 and 2021 and a perfect 5-0 record overall in the playoffs. 


Edmonton Elks quarterback Taylor Cornelius will miss the team's season finale on Friday against the B.C. Lions due to a spleen injury. Cornelius suffered the injury in Edmonton's 28-23 loss to the Toronto Argonauts last Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium. He was sent to the hospital that evening and has remained there for observation.


Canadian tennis great Daniel Nestor made the ballot for the 2023 class of the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Nestor is an eight-time doubles Grand Slam champion and four-time mixed doubles Grand Slam winner. The inductees will be announced early next year.
