There are four matinee games in the Zone 4 High School Hockey League today before the start of the Christmas break. The Mountain Mustangs face the Pembina Tigers in Pilot Mound at noon. The Morris Mavericks host the Miller Aces and the Garden Valley Zodiacs meet the Cougars in Carman. Both games start at 12:30 p.m. The Morden Thunder host the Northlands Parkway Nighthawks at 1:30 p.m. The Zone 4 schedule resumes on January 6th. 


The Winkler Flyers play their last game before the start of the Christmas break tonight against the Portage Terriers at the Centennial Arena and the Pembina Valley Hawks play their final game before the break tonight in Morden against the defending Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League champion Winnipeg Wild. 


Kyle Connor had two goals and an assist and David Rittich made 35 saves as the Winnipeg Jets defeated the Ottawa Senators 5-1 at Canada Life Centre. Josh Morrissey, Sam Gagner and Kevin Stenlund also scored for the Jets (21-10-1) who won for the third time in their last four games. Connor and Morrissey each extended their point streak to 10 games. Winnipeg will play road games against the Boston Bruins on Thursday and the Washington Capitals on Friday before the start of the Christmas break.


The Manitoba Moose recalled goaltender Evan Cormier from the ECHL's Kalamazoo Wings. The 25-year-old Bowmanville, Ontario native has suited up in 14 games for Kalamazoo this season. He holds a 5-8-1 record with a 3.00 goals-against average, a .908 save percentage and one shutout. Cormier played 14 games for Manitoba in 2021-22 while recording an 8-3-3 mark with a 2.72 goals-against average and .905 save percentage. The Moose face the Iowa Wild tonight at Wells Fargo Arena.


The defending Grey Cup champion Toronto Argonauts will take on the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Halifax in 2023. The CFL announced its plans for the latest Touchdown Atlantic regular-season game, which will take place July 29th. Toronto will be the Touchdown Atlantic home team for the third consecutive time.
