The Winkler Flyers acquired defenseman Zachary Brault from the Selkirk Steelers in exchange for forward Rhett Marchant at the Manitoba Junior Hockey League trade deadline. Brault had three goals and 17 assists in 31 games with the Steelers this season. The Flyers also signed a letter of intent with Marek Miller. Winkler selected the 16-year-old La Salle native first overall in the 2022 MJHL draft. Miller has 12 goals and 22 assists in 25 games with the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League's Pembina Valley Hawks. 


The Miller Aces and Mountain Mustangs were winners in the Zone 4 High School Hockey League. Xander Dyck scored in regulation and in the shootout as Miller edged Garden Valley 6-5. Tyson Tarnick added a pair of goals for the Aces while the rest went to Oakley Peters and Gavin Wiens. Haiden Friesen scored twice for the Zodiacs and singles went to Philip Franz, Brayden Froese and Jeffrey Holomay. Brett Lesage had a hat trick and Chaz Richard scored his second goal of the game in overtime to lift Mountain past Pembina 7-6. Owen Foster and Alex Jamault also scored for the Mustangs. Grady Ross, Carter Leslie, Charlie Hill, Derek Rasmussen, Max Jago and James Young replied for the Tigers. 


Rylen Roersma scored twice, Nolan Ritchie had a pair of assists and Carson Bjarnason made 34 saves as Brandon defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-2 at Westoba Place. Calder Anderson and Nate Danielson also scored for the Wheat Kings.


Canada will play its final preliminary round game today against the United States at the 2023 World Women's U18 Hockey Championship in Ostersund, Sweden. Both teams have 2-0 records and have secured their spots in the semifinals. The winner will finish first in Group A. 


The Winnipeg Jets five-game winning streak came to an end Tuesday night in Detroit. Moritz Seider had four assists in the Red Wings 7-5 victory over Winnipeg. Neal Pionk, Sam Gagner, Nate Schmidt, Nikolaj Ehlers and Mark Scheifele scored for the Jets who trailed 3-1 after the first period and 5-3 after 40 minutes. Winnipeg's Connor Hellebuyck allowed six goals on 22 shots. 


The Green Bay Packers have signed defensive back Tyrell Ford. The 24-year-old was chosen by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers with the 13th overall pick in the 2022 CFL Draft. He recorded 10 special teams tackles in 18 games this past season. Winnipeg released Ford to allow him to pursue an opportunity in the NFL. The Blue Bombers will retain his CFL rights until February of 2025.
