Wade Allison is on the Philadelphia Flyers 23-player roster for the start of the season. The 24-year-old Myrtle native, who was selected by Philadelphia in the second round of the 2016 NHL Draft, played in four exhibition games this month. Allison had four goals and seven points in 14 games with the Flyers during the final month of the 2020-21 NHL season. He played one game with Philadelphia last season. The Flyers open the 2022-23 season Thursday at home against New Jersey. 


Ketema Wall scored three times as the Garden Valley Zodiacs defeated the Northlands Parkway Nighthawks 4-3 in Zone 4 High School Exhibition Hockey. Jeff Holomay also scored for the Zodiacs. Simon Hiebert, Tyler Berg and Carter Unger replied for the Nighthawks. The Zone 4 High School Hockey League's 54th season begins Friday in Altona as the Miller Aces meet Northlands Parkway.


The Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association will host its second provincial championship of the 2022-23 school year today. The Cross Country Championships will be held at the Killarney Lakeside golf course. The varsity boys championship (5000 metres) begins at 12 p.m.; the junior varsity boys championship (4000 metres) starts at 12:30 p.m.; the varsity girls championship (4000 metres) begins at 1 p.m. and the junior varsity girls championship (3000 metres) starts at 1:30 p.m. The Provincial High School Golf Championships were held earlier this month in Carman. 


The finalists have been announced for Golf Manitoba's  2022 Female and Male Amateur Golfer of the Year Awards. The Female Finalists are Addison Kartusch, Jeri Lafleche, Charmaine Mackid and Rhonda Orr. The Male finalists are Braxton Kuntz, Curtis Markusson, Rob Oliphant and Marco Trstenjak. Kartusch won the Manitoba Junior Girls Championship and finished 30th at the Canadian Championship. She also finished ninth at the Canada Summer Games. Lafleche captured the Provincial Women’s Amateur Championship and placed fifth at the Manitoba Junior Girls Championship. Mackid tied for sixth place  in the Mid-Master Flight of the Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship where she finished in a tie for ninth place overall. Orr won Provincial Women’s Senior Championship for the ninth in the last ten year and finished 10th at the Nationals. Orr also tied for eighth place at the Women’s Senior Amateur Championship in the United States. Kuntz won the Manitoba Junior Championship and finished in a tie for fifth place at the Nationals. He also won the Provincial Men’s Amateur Championship. Markusson won the Canadian Men’s Mid-Master Championship and tied for 12th at the Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship. Oliphant captured the Manitoba Match Play Senior Championship and the Provincial Senior Men’s Senior Championship. Trstenjak won the Manitoba Match Play Championship and finished second at the Provincial Men's Championship. The winners will be announced at the Golf Manitoba Awards reception on Tuesday, November 2nd at the Breezy Bend Country Club.
