It's been a sea of red, white and Canadian patriotism in St. Jean this summer after the L.U.D. committee launched a Canada 150 Garden and Yard Challenge. Organizer Lucien Jean tells us a total of nine entries were received, but there

Both sides of the home were decorated in a Canada 150 motif were many homes in the community which got on board, but did not register officially.

"It was really quite rewarding to see how people got on board, and said, 'Sure, let's do that and beautify our town,'" noted Jean. "What it means to me is pride of community, pride of our country, and being truly Canadian."

Earlier this week judges, including CFAM Radio 950 Morning Show Co-Host Chris Sumner, toured through St. Jean reviewing the entries to select a top three. Jean admits, with a chuckle, he did scout around town before the judges arrived.

"Being initiator of the Challenge, you want to see how people have met the challenge, and I'm very, very proud of what the people have contributed to the beautification of our town, and celebrated Canada's 150."

After all the creative red and white displays were reviewed, Doug and Marsha Godard at 9 River Avenue were selected as first place, Gerald and Maryse Lafond at 6 Second Street Southwest as second, and Irene Bruneau of 20 Baril Avenue was third.
