There's no doubt about it, it was a windy Friday afternoon in the Pembina Valley. Just how windy was it? So windy it overturned a semi trailer hauling a wind turbine blade!

According to eyewitnesses who connected with PembinaValleyOnline, and information shared on the Altona/Rhineland Emergency Services (ARES) Facebook page, the incident occurred mid-afternoon Friday on Highway 14, about 7kms east of Rosenfeld.

According to the Manitoba Ag Weather network, a peak wind gust of 55 km/h from the south was recorded in the Altona area.

Around 3:50 pm, ARES responded to a report of a vehicle upside down in a ditch. The vehicle was a large truck hauling a blade for a wind turbine that was overturned by the wind. There were no injuries.

Motorists reported crews were at the site most of the day Saturday working on overturning the truck, and loading the blade for transport. That was completed shortly before 5 p.m., with the semi hauling the blade last seen heading westbound on Highway 14 toward Winkler.
