On a day that surely brought back memories of the Dirty Thirties, new daily high records were set across the province Monday as billowy towers of dirt and dust rolled across the landscape in many areas.
"As an approaching low pressure system, and its corresponding warm front, brought gusty southerly and westerly winds, temperatures skyrocketed across the region Monday," said CMOS Accredited Weathercaster Chris Sumner. "Average day time highs for the end of March are around 5 or 6 degrees. As you can see in the temperatures below, highs in those areas were more than three times that in some cases."
The oldest record to fall, according to Environment Canada, was in the Morden area which reached 20.6 degrees Monday, more than two degrees warmer than the previous record set in 1929.
"One thing's for sure, there won't be any temperature records set Tuesday," added Sumner. "From Monday’s highs to this morning’s lows, there was a nearly 30 degree drop for many of those record setting communities!"
Wind Warnings ended around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, gusty northwesterly winds up to 60 km/h are expected well into the evening.
