The sunflower crop has come along very well over the last couple of weeks.

Grant Fehr, Purchasing Manager at Keystone Grain in Winkler, says the recent heat wave has allowed sunnies to develop nicely.

He adds western growing areas could use a rain, but crops in the Red River Valley seem to be holding up well.

Fehr stresses even though the crop is well on its way, growers still need to be checking for insects.

In particular he suggests looking for lygus bug, banded sunflower moth, and head clipper weevil.
