The Manitoba Chambers of Commerce is backing a call for the province to overturn a moratorium on hog barn construction and expansion.

The temporary pause was implemented earlier this month, and will be in effect until the Clean Environment Commission completes a review of the hog industry.

President Graham Starmer says the ban has caused a lot of concern in the business community, particularly those who invest in hog barn operations.

He's disappointed the n-d-p would suddenly impose a pause on such a crucial industry with absolutely no science to back it up.

Based on their own analysis, starmer says the hog sector stands to lose $25 million if the moratorium remains in place for one year.
