The task force recommends a four-stage transition from a Canadian Wheat Board with monopoly powers to a marketing choice environment.

Agriculture Minister Chuck Strahl has released the recommendations of the task force on implementing marketing choice.

The transition would include preparing for change, forming the new C.W.B., launching the transformed C.W.B. with transition measures, and post transition.

The task force has suggested the entire process begin with the Tories tabling a bill which would repeal the Canadian Wheat Board Act, and would provide authority for the new wheat board plus transitional measures.

Based on the bill receiving Royal Assent by June 2007, the task force has recommended marketing choice be implemented for barley January 31st, 2008.

Marketing choice for all wheat would begin July 31st, 2008.
