A new world record was set yesterday afternoon in Winkler for Children's Camps International.

160 acres of winter wheat was harvested in 11min 16 sec.

CCI President Ray Wieler says the day went far better than expected.

He notes there were some tense moments leading up to the harvest.

They were doubtful yesterday when the area received 1/2 inch of rain on Friday.

But the sun came out and the wind picked up to help dry the field and they went ahead.

Ed Guenther farms just south of Gnadenthal and was one of 100 combine operators who donated their time.

He says the swath was damp but was consistent so it went through well.

Guenther adds he got involved because it was a good cause.

A huge crowd was out for the event with traffic backed up all along Highway 32 yesterday.

Wieler says it was a logistical nightmare dealing with the crowd that did show up but adds the event came together in an amazing way.
