Winter wheat harvest is nearly finished in south-central Manitoba, and the combining of spring cereals has begun.

The winter wheat harvest is nearing completion in southcentral Manitoba.


This week's Manitoba Agriculture crop report states yields are ranging from 50 to 95 bushels per acre with good quality.


Perennial ryegrass harvest is close to complete with gross yields ranging from 500 to 1300 pounds per acre.


Excellent progress is being made in swathing of wheat, barley, and oats, with swathing of barley complete.  


Combining of cereal crops has begun while swathing of canola has also started, with more acres done in western parts of the region.


Corn is tasseling and starting to set cobs, potatoes are done flowering, and soybeans are flowering and podding.


Some second cut alfalfa is underway with other fields being pastured due to lack of re-growth.

Some producers have taken their cattle off pasture and begun supplementing them due to lack of growth.
