Residents and those passing through Carman will soon be able to grab a quick bite to eat and a fresh coffee at the new Tim Hortons going up in the community.

Co-owner, Jeff Doerksen, hopes to throw open the doors to the restaurant and begin serving customers some time this month, noting construction is heading into the home stretch.

"We've been working away finding staffing for that operation," he explained. "It's not without it's challenges, there seems to be a tight market but we're starting to get our team put together. We've also got some training going on in our two current locations for the Carman store, and we hope to hit the ground running in a couple of weeks."

The new restaurant is going up on Highway 3 on the east side of town.

"The high school has a good flow of traffic, the highway to Winnipeg and the number three highway through Carman en route to Winkler and Morden has some good traffic numbers," noted Doerksen. "We hope to see a few of those folks stop in a visit us."

For Doerksen, who co-owns the Winkler and Morden Tim Hortons locations with his wife, Linda, bringing the franchise to Carman is a bit of a homecoming,

"Carman is near and dear to (our) hearts. We both grew up there and went to high school there," he explained, noting they'd thought about opening another store in Carman for many years, but said they just never found a location that was quite right. That all changed about a year-and-a-half ago when an opportunity presented itself.

Doerksen hopes to have the Carman Tim Hortons up and running some time during the week of October 18th.
