A small brake fire on a grain truck lead to traffic being backed up for a period of time Tuesday afternoon at the corner of Highway 14 and 3 near Boundary Trails Health Centre.

Winkler Fire Department was called out just before 2 p.m., and Chief Richard Paetzold indicated they found the brakes on had locked, causing a small fire.

"An extinguisher was used by a passerby, and (the fire was) extinguished before we arrived," he explained in an email to PembinaValleyOnline. "The fire department confirmed extinguishment and caged the wheel, so the driver could get the truck off the highway."

Paetzold says they were able to move the truck to the south side of the intersection relatively quickly, so additional work could be done safely.

There were no injuries in the incident.
