It's another sign of the continued growth happening in the City of Winkler.

Earlier this week, a significant infrastructure project wrapped up, creating a new efficient way to travel in Winkler from the Northlands Parkway area of the city to the rest of the community.

"What we've done is put Park Street through further north," said Mayor Henry Siemens. "That involved doing some intersection realignments, which involved moving the service road (Boundary Trail) as well so that we can still have turning radiuses for trucks," added Siemens. "But for me, the most exciting part about that is it's the opening of a brand new road in Winkler connecting two areas that are a significant way around if you go either east or west."

The roadway was expanded over the summer months from the Boundary Trail Service road just north of Highway 14 connecting it to Northland Parkway.

"The first time I drove down that road, it really felt like quite something that we now have an opportunity to do a little bit more development in that area as well. And I know that there are some projects that are close to being ready to move forward."

Siemens also extended a big thank you to the City staff and all the contractors for this past construction season.

"We've been able to get an awful lot of projects done from sidewalks to streets, to water projects... We've had a safe season, and we've been pleased to see that. "Again, as our community continues to grow, to be able to offer that to the Community, to be able to finish them (projects) well, I'm proud of the entire team for the work that's happened there."

Although construction of Park Street is complete and traffic is moving smoothly, Siemens says there is still some work to be done in the area, including landscaping.
