What used to be a mess to walk through will soon be a beautiful shaded area people can enjoy.

Councillor Ron Stanger says in cooperation with the Lasalle-Redboine Conservation District, about 15 acres of the old Carman Landfill site will be planted with various trees.

He says they are preparing the grounds for planting this fall by cultivating rows, and they will begin planting in spring.

Stanger says for a few years there will be plastic around the trees to keep the weeds down, and the trees will be spread far enough apart to cultivate between them.

Stanger adds this will give the transfer station some much needed shelter from the wind.
