The Federal government's decision to change the long form mandatory census to long form voluntary has got Community Futures Triple R in Morris a bit uneasy.  Dayna Lalchun is the Business Development Manager with Triple R. She says they use the information collected as the basis for reliable data for their clients, and now that reliability is a concern.

Lalchun adds the compiled long form data has a great value for someone like herself who is developing marketing plans for a business. She says this data can be used to define consumption and usage patterns for specific products and services in the area and combined with the demographic information, provides a good idea what the market size would be.

Lalchun adds the data may not have been 100% accurate, but at least it was from an unbiased source and the most reliable source possible.  Meanwhile, Statistics Canada has said the voluntary census will only produce a 50% response rate. Lalchun says that number remains to be seen however she hopes at least 50% of Canadians will respond. She says this could have an impact in how Triple R will use the information.

Lalchun adds business plans will still be created in the same way, and notes their main concern is how best they can help their clients. She says they will use the best data they can to ensure businesses are developing their plans with the best information they have.
