A special presentation at the Morden Friendship Centre (MFC) by masters students from the University of Manitoba's interior design program was held Friday afternoon.

The students had partnered with the senior's centre for a major assignment. They were told to re-imagine what the centre could be while maintaining the existing space. The presentations lasted a few hours and featured new interior and exterior ideas for the centre.

"This group [of students] was looking for a project that was community based," said Jason Kasper, an instructor with the faculty of architecture at the university.

One of the students, Jason Shields, suggested that while all the students had different goals, the overall idea was to create a space that would engage with the community.

"We wanted to take a contemporary look on [the centre], but keep what the heart of the community centre is," said Shields.

"I know it's very important to this area."

Executive Director of the MFC, Dale Ready, helped to organize the event and sat listening during the afternoon of presentations, asking the students questions to better understand their ideas.
