Altona police are investigating after vandals struck the Altona Centennial Park sometime overnight Monday into Tuesday.

Park staff reported the incident to police Tuesday morning, indicating they'd spent the first part of their day rounding up about a dozen picnic tables that had been flipped over and moved around, returning a concrete bench back to its original position, and cleaning up the toilet paper from the inside of the main washroom building. As well, the report indicates staff returned a number of permanent signs on steel posts back to their respective spots, and cleaned up remnants of several broken hand sanitizer dispensers.

"These pointless acts of vandalism are not only costly in materials but also a total waste of tax dollars on the Municipal Staff salaries who are left to clean up the mess," said a news release issued by the Altona Police Service.

Anyone with information on these crimes is asked to contact the Altona Police Service at 204-324-5353 or Manitoba Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Tipsters can remain anonymous. Police pay for information that leads to a conviction.
