Swimmers in the area are taking advantage of the recent heat wave.

Winkler Aquatic Centre Head Instructor Rebecca Froese says from the beginning of July until now, they've seen 4,000 public swimmers come in, not including members.

She says that's double the amount they had for all of July last year.

Froese says the increased attendance makes things a little more stressful for the on duty lifeguards.

She says, however, so far they have not had to call any emergency services during public swimming.
