Ryan Wiebe of St. Vital, William Lyburn of the Granite, Tanner Horgan of Winnipeg Beach and defending champion Mike McEwen of West St. Paul won “A” side qualifiers and moved on the Playoff Round at the 2020 Viterra Provincial Men’s Curling Championship at the Eric Coy Arena in Winnipeg.

Wiebe downed second seed Jason Gunnlaugson of Morris 8-2, Lyburn beat Braden Calvert of Assiniboine Memorial 7-4, McEwen bounced Sean Grassie 6-1 and Horgan defeated Corey Chambers of the Thistle 7-3.

“We’re playing pretty well,” said Horgan. “We’re having our ups and downs. As good as we have been doing I still think there’s another level that this team can get to.”

Horgan, third Colton Lott, second Kyle Doering and lead Tanner Lott will put their three-game winning streak on the line tonight (7:45 p.m.) against either Gunnlaugson or J.T. Ryan.

“The further you go, you start playing the higher ranked teams so it gets more difficult and gets a little more intense,” Horgan said. “I’m sure the crowds will start getting bigger too once the weekend roles around. That will be quite different. It will really have that playoff feel and big crowd feel, We just got to stick to our process and keep doing what we’re doing and not really think about it too much."
