Manitoba's grain corn harvest is slowly reaching the end.

Morgan Cott with the Manitoba Corn Growers Association says some good progress was made over the past week, however there are still some pockets remaining.

She's been hearing of yields in the range of 120 to 150 bushels per acre, however her best estimate on the average yield across the province is closer to that 110-115 range.

Cott talked about how the recent precipitation will affect the quality of the crop left out in the field.

"It's not going to affect quality, it's more the standing time that leaves the corn available to losses from weather, from wildlife," she explained. "That's probably the greater downfall when you're leaving the corn out for longer periods of time. The deer are hungry right now, they've been eating a fair bit."

Cott notes that producers have harvested in the winter before, so the snow shouldn't be an issue.

She adds the silage corn crop harvest is complete.
