In three weeks Winkler Bible Camp will welcome the first batch of more than 2,000 summer campers.

Due to higher registration numbers than last year and less staff members, the camp is in need of workers, says Executive Director Dale Wiebe. He says they're about 80 percent of where they need to be.

"We are constantly looking, and calling, and phoning, and praying for young men and woman that want to serve in this ministry and see it as a value and want to contribute and work hard," Wiebe said, adding that working at camp is a great experience for youth, and offers great experience in leadership.

"We are working hard at trying to get all of the people required to try and facilitate a good and healthy summer camp."

Wiebe says a lot of kids are getting jobs a lot sooner than they used to, which is one of the reasons that's made it more difficult to find workers.

Although they have been busy hosting school groups, weekend retreats, and various other events this spring, Wiebe says summer camp is what staff gears up for all year long.

Beginning the first week of July, they will welcome their first wave of upwards of 2,100 summer campers. He says they have many options and sessions for kids to register for.

Last year the camp introduced a new exciting feature, a 70-foot giant swing. "That we started last year, and it worked really well," Wiebe said. "Our petting zoo is continually getting larger, and this year we're putting a fish pond in the petting zoo."
