Winkler Fire Department responded to what was described on its Facebook page as a"large brush pile" fire Friday evening. The call came in around 10:12 p.m. and had crews travel to a yard off Road 14 North.

Fire Chief Richard Paetzold says the owner was burning trees and brush from the October 2019 winter storm. No actions were necessary from the fire department, because it was being supervised and conducted under approved fire danger conditions.

Paetzold would like to remind residents, if controlled burning is taking place, to call the department and let them know in advance.
